A little bit about us

On this page, members of the choir take it in turns to say a little about themselves and their singing experience.

Ann Archer

I have been a member of my village church choirs throughout my life and have only recently taken to singing alto which has opened up a new repertoire for me. I am enjoying it immensely. I am also an active member of the Stamford Choral Society.

My other interests include campanology where I am the current Tower Captain of Great Casterton Church in Rutland. I have previously been a member of Peterborough Cathedral band of bell-ringers, but unfortunately am no longer able to continue because of family commitments.

I also enjoy gardening, walking, cross stitch and my current passion is card making. I have run several card making events for local friends and family and meet up every month to chat and make cards with former work colleagues.

As a founder member of Stamford Singers, I first met Paul White as a colleague at Stamford School and joined the schools’ Chapel Choir as an alto in 2004. I have always enjoyed singing but, since singing soprano at school, have not taken part in choral music for many years.

Peter Hitchcox

I am organist in our village church but I also play the recorders, viol and cello but I joined the Stamford Singers because it is a small group which sings a wide variety of music. We rehearse carefully which gives me great satisfaction, but we also get on well as a group and enjoy ourselves. It is also a great pleasure to give concerts and also sing services in our beautiful cathedrals from time to time.

I have always enjoyed singing and music and much of my adult life has been spent teaching it to young children and until recently to adults. With my wife (also a Stamford Singer) we formed 'The Terpsichore Consort' about 30 years ago and we perform  'Early Music' in the area.
