Stamford is a market town of medieval and Georgian buildings faced with local stone. No longer an important coaching stop on the Great North Road between London and York, this once major wool town has retained much of its old world charm and prosperity . Declared the first Conservation area in the country in 1967 it has a recorded history of over 1000 years. Stamford is situated in gently rolling countryside in a landscape of woods and agricultural land punctuated by delightful villages and aristocratic estates.
